I'm 56 and the Sapphire glass on the 5x makes it tough to read indoors - dark tint. The Instinct has a face similar to a Casio old-school watch and is very readable indoors or outdoors. If I could only have one watch it would be the Fenix, mainly for the ability to use hundreds of faces - Instinct only has a handful - and for the maps, etc, But
Thanks, so the lugs don't stick out as much as it seems then, 5mm on the F5s vs 4.5mm on F5 If you think about it the 5mm lugs on the 42mm 5S vs. the 4.5mm lugs on the 47mm 5 means that the lugs proportionality are significantly larger on the 5S as a percentage of overall size which creates the impression of the bat ears.
The sapphire version also has DLC coating, which greatly improves scratch resistance. The 6 pro might be easier to read, since sapphire tends to be more reflective than mineral glass, but if you install a screen protector, it won't matter. 1. r/GarminFenix.

. With the Epix it’s more like 5-7 days (what it was for the 6) . Whoop is at best 4 days and really 3 between charges, Polar more like 5 days. Circling back, Garmin’s 7/Epix line are getting closer to Polar’s in-activity heart rate accuracy, but as you are looking at the 7x, I’d wonder about the weight/size.

As a fellow active duty Fenix user, I found the main upgrade between my 5x to 6x pro was music playback. Yeah, the bigger screen is great and the other metrics are nice, but if you aren't really wanting music, Garmin pay, or the big screen I'd hold off. You still have topo maps with mgrs on the 5x with decent battery life.
Know what you mean re bugs I think Garmin is getting better at it. Though it depends on what you want. I tried the Epix 2, but, the shorter battery life just did my head in, must have battery anxiety 😂. My path was F6X Sapphire, AW7, EPIX, Tactix 7 over a period of 2ish years.
